Functional bandage

Functional bandaging is nothing more than the term for the application of adhesive, elastic or rigid bandages.

An example of this type of bandage is the famous white “Tape” that is often seen on the fingers of athletes. In fact, very often, we hear people talk about functional taping rather than bandaging, using an English term that groups several different types of bandages.

What are they used for? When you use it?

Normally, these bandages are applied immediately after the injury to stabilize the involved joint.

They are applied during the rehabilitation phase to provide stability and reduce pain.

They are applied during the rehabilitation phase to provide stability and reduce pain. However, the best known function is the preventive action that allows the athlete to return to the field ensuring stability and preventing injuries (this is the case, for example, of the ankle bandage with white tape).

The duration of the use of functional taping varies depending on the objective to be achieved in terms of recovery and stability of the joint involved.
